Sunset Cove Hotel is located on the northwest coast of Ishigakijima. We are 20 minutes by car from the airport, 30 minutes from Ishigaki City Centre, 10 minutes from Kabira Bay and Village, and 10 seconds on foot from the ocean.

The remote location is very relaxing. But there are only a couple restaurants within walking distance and no shops for sundries in the area. We find that guests are best able to enjoy their stay with us if they have a rental car. For this purpose we offer inexpensive daily rentals of small cars (maximum 4 people per car). To drive on Ishigaki you must have an International Driver's License - your license from your country of origin is not valid in Japan.

Shuttles to and from the airport for arriving and departing guests are complimentary. ​We also provide transportation for our guests who do not have rental cars as we are able. We often take people to and from Ishigaki City Centre and parts in-between with advance notice and depending on availability. When possible, we even bring people back to the hotel after their activities in town and beyond. When we are not able to do this, there are infrequent public buses (#2 and #8) from the Bus Terminal to Itona Bus Stop, which is 200m from the hotel entrance. The last daily bus leaves Ishigaki Bus Terminal at 17:35. It is ¥1,000 for a 1 day all-routes bus pass, and ¥2,000 for a 5 day pass... a good value. Taxis are also available in town to return in the night and will cost about ¥5,000.

​It may be possible to arrange for late pick up service through the Sunset Cove front desk for a lesser fee, but this is dependent upon availability.

Rental Cars

YOU MUST HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE!

Most people will find it an advantage to have their own rental car for the duration of their stay. 

This provides for maximum flexibility on the island. Sunset Cove also has a small rental fleet available in-house for guests who just want to rent for 1 day at a time, or for their whole stay, but prefer to take advantage of our great airport shuttle service on arrival and departure.
